Picture Archive

Here you'll find a collection of old pictures (Largely thanks to Ken Amos G4YRF, and other members of the Shefford Club) of me and those who've helped me progress in the hobby. Those of a sensitive nature might want to look away!!

This is Doug Pike, G3VMI. He worked with my father at Herbert Controls in Letchworth and loaned me an HRO to get me started as an SWL.

Circled in red is Reg Day, G3TKJ. Reg single-handedly taught me all I needed to know to get through my RAE. I passed first go.

Reg is now a Silent Key.

I will always be indebted to you Reg. 73.

Two well known Shefford Club figures from the seventies - Claude Pettifar, G2DPQ & Fred Handscombe, G4BWP - shown here at the field day site at Topler's Hill. I must have borrowed my mum's car that weekend - it's the beige Escort in the background.

Fred & I were at school together, and he taught me the intricacies of contest operating.

That's me on the left, the guy with the beard is BBC weatherman Jim Bacon.

That's me aged 15 in this group shot taken at Topler's Hill in 1975. I can still name most of the people in this picture, and remember their callsigns!

There are several old friends in this shot, including Bob, G4ARL (SK) back row second from left. Bob got me interested in a job with Barclays Bank. Also in view is a very young Simon Phillips, G4EYR; Claude, G2DPQ; Joe G3EUS and Ross Baldwin (SWL).
